CVC Activities

CVC word families were my FAVORITE thing to teach when I was still in the classroom. Making rhymes, watching the students come up with real and make believe words, having that one student “GET IT!” Ahhhh! I loved it!

The only problem I had was the years when I was told to teach the whole vowel in one week (due to the new pacing guide – grrrr). I liked teaching the word families within that vowel and then reviewing all of them at the end, and not the other way around.

This is the reason I created mini lessons for each word family and then a whole vowel review packet for each vowel! This way you can take the time to teach the word families in isolation (in whole group, small groups, have the activities set in centers for review etc.) or as a whole. Your choice! 🙂

Included in each individual word family packet you will find:

  • Trace, Write & Match – Trace the words, write the words and then cut and paste the pictures to match each word.
  • CVC Matching – Cut and paste the words to match each picture (up to 9 pictures)
  • Missing Letters – Color in the letter that is missing at the beginning of each word and then write in the letter on the empty lines.
  • Missing Letters – Cut and paste the missing letter into the correct box. (the beginning letter is missing)
  • Sentence Match – Cut and glue the picture to match each sentence.
  • Sentence Match – Read two sentences for each picture and then color in the sentence that matches the picture to the left of it.
  • CVC Code Cracker – Use the pictures in the code to find out which CVC word is listed. Then cut and glue the picture to match each word.
  • Fact Family House – Cut and glue the pictures into the fact family house that belong.
  • CVC Spelling – Color inthe circles to spell each CVC picture and then write the correct spelling on the lines.
  • CVC Mazes – Untangle the lines to find the picture that matches the CVC spelling word.
  • CVC Mazes – Untangle the lines and then cut and glue the pictures to match the words.
  • Cut and Paste Sentences – Cut and glue the words into the correct order to match the picture.
  • CVC Word Search – Spell out the word to match each picture and then find the words in the word search.
  • CVC FlipFlap Book Craft – Cut and glue the pictures under the name of each word. This can be done on regular paper or construction paper.
  • Color by Code – Use the code to color the CVC picture that is part of that CVC word family.
